Dorothy Jean Bryant

January 24, 1934 - January 10, 2023

Jean Bryant, 88, of Salem, Va., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. Born in Roanoke County, Va. On January 24, 1934, to the late Pack L. and Bessie Baker Hawkins, she is also preceded in death by her husband, James R. “Jim” Bryant, Sr. as well as her daughter, Sandy Bryant Huffman.

Jean was a faithful member of Mason’s Cove Chapel for many years and attended regularly until her health declined so that she became unable to. She loved being outside in the sunshine and fresh air and was blessed with a green thumb and a gift for gardening. In her quiet time, she could be found with a crochet hook in hand crocheting something special. Jean loved a yard sale and could be found on many Saturday mornings making deals with neighbors for their no longer needed tag items. Above all, she was a devoted homemaker who greatly loved her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Randy Bryant; daughter, Teresa Bryant; son-in-law, Steve Huffman; grandchildren, Scott (Cara) Bryant, Christi Bryant, Whitney (Chris Irby) Huffman, and Courtney Huffman (Garrett) Pavich; as well as seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

The family will welcome friends on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem; funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Sonny Miller officiating. Interment immediately following in Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice either by visiting their website and clicking “Ways to Give” or via mail and sent to Attn: Development, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018.

The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to Good Samaritan Hospice, especially to Stacey – RN, Ginger – Social Worker, and Tammy – Chaplain, for their compassionate kindness and care for Jean and their family during a most difficult time.
