Dottie Wright Hudson Pritchett
On October 19, 2024, at the age of 84, Dottie Wright Hudson Pritchett peacefully passed at home while surrounded by love. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Born on May 29, 1940, to Herbert Wright and Inez Coffey Wright, she was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Buddy Wright, Bill Wright, Phillip Wright, Easter Taylor, and Massie Tyree. She is survived by her loving daughter, Charlotte Hudson Fluharty, and son-in-law, Scott Fluharty, as well as her adored grandsons, Andrew and Tristan, who were the lights of her life and fondly called her “MeMe.” She is also survived by sister, Ruby Edwards of Amherst, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She shared many years of happiness with her late husband, Curtis "Pete" Pritchett, with whom she found joy in traveling, especially on cruises to the Caribbean Islands. Together, they created a life full of laughter, and cherished memories.
A talented and creative woman, she attended Phillip’s Business School and began her career in retail jewelry and clothing, eventually realizing her dream of owning an antique and gift shop, Ebony and Ivory. Her passion for beauty and design extended to every corner of her life, from sewing intricate wedding dresses and window treatments to building fish ponds and decks with her own hands. She lived to decorate, transforming her homes into beautiful, welcoming spaces filled with love and care.
Her faith was central to her life, and she found immense fulfillment as the Choir Director at Calvary Cross Baptist Church, where she also contributed her talents to decorating the church and assisting with seasonal floral arrangements. She loved her church community, especially enjoying her time with the senior group.
In her later years, she found peace sitting on her porch, watching the birds, and appreciating the serenity of her backyard.
Her greatest role in life, however, was that of a grandmother. Her grandsons brought her unparalleled joy, and she embraced every moment she had with them, leaving behind a legacy of love, creativity, and devotion.
She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit and love will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Calvary Cross Baptist Church in Lynchburg on Saturday, October 26, at 11 AM to celebrate her life and the many ways she touched the lives of those around her.
Friends and family are invited to gather from 10-11:00 for fellowship with her immediate family and each other prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome and can be made in Dottie's honor to support animal rescue efforts in North Carolina and Florida.
Burial at Culpeper Military Cemetery will take place at a future date.
