Dreama Seville Poore
Dreama Seville Akers Poore, 71, of Elliston, Virginia, gained her wings on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 4:25 a.m., after a 14-year battle with lung cancer. Her home was her happy place with a beautiful view of Poor Mountain. Born in Wytheville, Va. on December 10, 1952, to the late Noah Scott and Beatrice Monday Akers, she is also preceded in death by her sister, Emily Akers; brother, Frank Ray Akers; as well as her former husband, Stanley David Poore.
Dreama worked for Roanoke College for close to 25 years, having served as the Administrative Assistant for the Business and Economics Department. She was an avid supporter of animal rescue and the faithful owner of Grizzy Grey, her rescue pup, for 10 years. She was fiercely protective of this baby boy. Her love for him was totally unconditional, as so was her love for her family and friends. To know her was to love her.
Dreama is survived by her daughter and spouse, Sandy & Mike Collier of Richmond, Va.; granddaughter, Stevie Collier and partner, Dustin Wyand; grandson, Benjamin Collier; great grandson, Walker Michael Wyand, all of Richmond Va.; brother Roy Akers, and wife, Betty Ann, of Del Ray Beach, Flor.; sister, Renette McPeak and husband, J.C., of Wytheville, Va.; nephews, Jeff Akers of Roanoke, Va;, Matt Jackson of Longview, Texas, Josh Akers and wife Lauren, of Roanoke, Va.; nieces, Julie Hodges and husband Dennis, of the Dominican Republic, Kimberly Akers of Abingdon, Va., Christine Thompson and husband, Tim of Draper, Va., Tonya Taylor & partner, Lonnie Johnson of Roanoke, Va., Amy Keith of Roanoke, Va., and Victoria Melton and husband, Darrin, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; great nieces and nephews, Jessica and Brandon Turley, Sara and Emory Russell, Tyler and Emily Cardwell, Elijah and Liz Jackson, Hannah Melton and fiancé Storm Davis, Hailey Keith and partner, TC Bolt, Ashley Melton and fiancée, Alexis Espinoza, Jacob Taylor, Ethan Taylor, Jackson Melton and Chloe Taylor, great-great nieces and nephews, Blake Turley, Marissa Turley, Rocky Jackson, Jenson Akers, Kaden Jackson, Mattox Russell, Lincoln Turley, Ilya Cardwell, Tate Russell and Aleia Espinoza. Friends left to mourn are Nancy Mattox, Sandra Hoopes, Carol Erman, Debi Bornemann, Bridget Quadmann, Kimberly Raymer, Earl, Wanda, Eric and Mya Snider, as well as many faculty and staff of Roanoke College.
The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to her lifelong special friend, Sandra Hoopes, for going far beyond the call of duty in caring for Dreama throughout her illness. Also, special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice for the compassionate care and for keeping her comfortable during this short time.
The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home, Salem. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. David Drebes of College Lutheran Church officiating.
