Earnest Robertson
Earnest Lynwood Robertson, 92, passed on to his heavenly home Wednesday, December 21, 2022 while at the Centra Bedford Hospice House.
Left to cherish his memory are niece Julie Dunnewold of Tennessee, nephew Barry Robertson and wife Sarah of Stuarts Draft and many other relatives and friends. His beloved wife Eleanor Probst Robertson of 65 years, two sons Steven Wayne Robertson, Michael Lynn Robertson, parents Jessie Thomas Robertson and Jeanette Sherrard Robertson and fourteen siblings preceded him.
Earnest lived and worked in Salem, Virginia for seventy years before purchasing property in Bedford, Virginia. He and his wife built a lovely home on a wooded parcel which he maintained, pursuant to his admiration of the outdoors. He was a self taught woodworker and made many beautiful pieces for their home as well as bird houses for their enjoyment. Earnest was an avid gardener and was especially proud of his flowers and vegetables which he enjoyed sharing with friends. He and his wife Eleanor were inseparable and made the perfect team. They loved to travel and he would say he was a picture taker, not a photographer. Together they would take long rides in the car; a neighbor once said they drove farther on a Sunday afternoon than he did for vacation. A favorite pastime was night fishing on their boat at Smith Mountain Lake, and Eleanor once kept a running tally of the catch to prove she was ahead! Earnest had an impressive store of knowledge and completed a daily crossword puzzle, in pen. He was a hard worker and took pride in the many skills and jobs he acquired over his lifetime. He believed most of his talents were a blessing from his father. “Ernie” retired from the General Electric manufacturing plant in Salem, Virginia.
A private burial will take place in Cedar Lawn Cemetery Friday, January 6, 2023 with a memorial service in the spring at the same location.
