Edith James Wirt

October 14, 1936 - December 6, 2022

On December 6, 2022 Edith James Wirt passed quietly in bed at the home she shared with her husband William “Bill” for sixty-two years.  She was born in Boones Mill, Virginia on October 14, 1936 to Grace Pearl James and Carl Berkley James.  She is proceeded in death by brothers Moody, Beverly, Dick, John, and Michael James and sister Stella Leftwich.  She is survived by two brothers: Paul James, and Danny James and two sisters:  Rosie Ferrell, and Patsy James.

Edith served as mother to three children:  William Allen Wirt, II, Anthony Dale Wirt, and Michele Renea Wirt.  She was a grandmother to two grandchildren:  Matthew Charlton Wirt and Ryan Daniel Wirt.  Edith also served as acting grandmother to David and Jason Holt and Erica and Richard Nielsen.

She was a lifelong member of Locust Grove Methodist Church and enjoyed all of her many friends she met there.  Camping trips, potlucks, apple butter making, talent contests were all beloved activities that she enjoyed with her church folks.

Edith profound love of hiking, gardening, camping still emanates with her children today.  Her house was never left untidy and no visitor would ever see a dirty dish in the sink. She took pride in her collection of fine antique furniture, all of which restored by her.  Edith’s collection of roosters could only be surpassed by the Smithsonian.

Friends and family will miss her. Please know Edith lived life well and remember her wonderful smile.  She always preferred kindness to malice and would always want to offer help rather than hurt.  A memorial service will be planned for the pair of them for a later date.

Edith was proceeded in death by her husband Bill by three months. She never spoke of his passing but her sorrow was evident.  Her passing came on the morning of what would have been his ninety-first birthday.  It is obvious she did not want to miss the party.
