Edna Wood Cassell

Edna Wood Cassell, 91, of Bassett, VA passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. She was born to the late Ernest Wood and Lena Tilley Wood. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Watt Cassell, and brother, Leonard Wood.

She served as a volunteer with Patrick Henry Fire Department for 45 years and had over 20 years volunteering with Martinsville Memorial Hospital.

Edna is survived by her daughters, Patricia Underwood (Tommy), Cheryl Via (J.W.), and Susan Ray (Wayne); son, Ronald Cassell (Charlynne); sister, Erma Adams (Noel); brother, Wayne Wood; grandchildren, Renee Rose, Lori Roy, Craig Underwood, Sandra Via-Ellington, Matthew Via, Justin Ray, Andrew Cassell, and Jason Cassell; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to Old Center Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery care of Ann Martin, 2474 Stones Dairy Rd., Bassett, VA 24055 and Patrick Henry Volunteer Fire Department Lady’s Auxiliary care of Erma Adams, 73 Cassell Dr., Bassett, VA 24055.

The visitation will be held Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services Martinsville Chapel. The funeral service will be held Sunday, September 22, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services Martinsville Chapel with Pastor Edward Hartman officiating. Burial will follow the service at Old Center Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Bassett, VA 24055.

Norris Funeral Services will be handling the arrangements for the Cassell family.
