Edward Jackson Barbour

April 18, 1935 - February 21, 2024

Edward Jackson “Jackie” Barbour, 88, of 5907 Soapstone Road, Ridgeway, Virginia passed away February 21, 2024, at his residence with loved ones. He was born April 18, 1935, in Spencer, Virginia, to the late Edward Towler and Elizabeth Dell Moore Barbour.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Annie Laurie Barbour; and brother, James Clyde Barbour.

Jackie worked with Better Builders and Finney Building Supply for many years. He also operated Soapstone Speed Shop and was with B&L Processing when he retired. Jackie was in the first graduating class of Drewry Mason High School. He was a huge race fan having built race cars with his brother. He traveled the country camping, and thoroughly loved deep sea fishing.

Jackie is survived by wife Barbara H. Barbour of the home; daughters, Cynthia Denise Rakes of Bassett, Virginia, and Tammy Barbour Clark, of Martinsville, Virginia; son, Edward Jackson Barbour, Jr., of Ridgeway, Virginia; sister, Mary Virginia Bryant, of Scottsville, Virginia; grandchildren, Robert Scott Spencer, Dewey Lee Spencer, and Chasity Boardwine Martin; and great-grandchildren, Justin Riley Spencer, Brayden James Via, and Dewey Lee Spencer, Jr. (Peanut).

The funeral will be held Monday, February 26, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Tim Harville and Pastor Robert Hillburn officiating. Jackie will be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
