Elder Huey Lacy Gates

Elder Huey “Lacy” Gates, age 85, went home to be with the lord, June 2, 2023, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, in Dobson. Mr. Gates, known to many as Lacy, was born January 1, 1938, to the late Clisba and Lillian Gates. Mr. Gates is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Catherine Gates of the home, daughters and son-in-law; Annette Lawson, Patsy and Tony Payne, son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Mae Gates, his pride and joy, grandchildren; Rocky and wife Cassandra Gates, Amanda Wardwell and husband James, Michael and wife Tamika Lawson, Adam and wife Carrie Lawson, Ryan and wife Belle Jones, Mason Gates, thirteen great-grandchildren, sister; Emily (Verlie) Easter, daughter-in-law; Shelby Gates. Lacy was reunited in heaven with his parents, one son, Dale Gates, son-in-law; Brad Lawson, brother-in-law; Lawrence Easter, brothers and sisters-in-law; Alvin and Janice Gates, Charles and Peggy Gates. Mr. Gates also is survived by his special fur baby, Cleetus. Lacy never met a stranger in his many years worshiping the lord, in his tenure of being elder in the primitive Baptist faith, serving actively two churches as long as his health permitted. Mr. Gates was a well and faithful charter member of the Cana Vol. Fire Department, and Cana Rescue Squad. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 7th, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Korners Grove Primitive Baptist Church, Cana, Virginia, with Elders Woody Edwards, Randy Wagoner, and Rodney Marshall presiding. Family will receive friends Wednesday, June 7th, 2023, at Korners Grove Primitive Baptist Church, Cana, Virginia, from 12:00 until time of the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody’s of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Gates family.
