Eldridge Fontaine Dunn

January 20, 1939 - April 26, 2025

Eldridge Fontaine Dunn, Jr., 86, of Evington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Lynchburg on January 20, 1939, he was the son of the late Eldridge F. Dunn, Sr. and Charlotte Deacon Dunn.

From a young age, Eldridge demonstrated a strong work ethic and a heart for service. He began his career right out of high school with General Electric, where he worked as a skilled tool and die maker. His journey later took a meaningful turn when he was recruited by Dr. Jerry Falwell into Christian ministry, ultimately serving as the Children’s Ministries Director at Thomas Road Baptist Church until his retirement.

Eldridge was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church, where his faith and joy in sharing his testimony touched many lives. He was a man of deep conviction and love—qualities he poured into his family and community alike. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, his legacy of faith and love will continue through the generations.

Twice married, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Ashwell Dunn and his second wife, Nancy Lewis Dunn. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Smith.

Eldridge is survived by his daughter, April Dunn Lowe (Rick) of Angier, NC; three sons Keith Dunn (Lisa) of Forest, Kenneth Dunn (Beth) of Lynchburg, and Stephen Dunn (Tracy) of Goode; 17 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.

The Dunn family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Centra Hospice for the compassionate and dedicated care they provided during Eldridge’s final days.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

Eldridge’s life was a testament to faith, service, and family—he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
