Eleanor Virginia Dye
Eleanor Virginia Dye of Vinton, VA passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Maxine Dye of Kentucky. She moved to Roanoke VA at a young age where she attended elementary and high school. She graduated from Roanoke College in 1958 with a BA in English.
Eleanor was employed by the Commonwealth of Virginia's Department of Corrections/Division of Youth and Family Services, where she eventually became regional manager. She retired after 40 years of service with the department.
After her retirement, Eleanor pursued many interests. Among these were teaching English as a second language, serving as a lay reader at her church, and exploring the many backroads of Southwest Virginia looking for wildflowers and observing nature. She was a member of the Roanoke Bird Club where she served a time as Vice President for membership. Additionally, she was a member of the Roanoke Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution for 34 years. During this time, she served in many leadership roles at both the local and state levels.
Surviving is her brother, Frank Dye; a sister, Edith Dye both of Lexington, Kentucky; cousin, Dana Tarrant of Keswick, VA, who took special care of her for the last couple of years. She will be missed by many other relatives, and friends too numerous to mention.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at the Electric Road Chapel of Simpson Funeral Home 3912 Electric Road from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m .A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 7, 2025 at St. Timothy Lutheran Church 1201 Hardy Road Vinton, VA by the Rev.
