Elizabeth Ann Hairston

July 15, 1949 - June 12, 2025

Elizabeth Ann Venable-Hairston, 75, went home to be with her Lord Thursday, June 12, 2025, in Martinsville, Virginia. She was born July 15, 1949, to the late Willie Edward Harris and Marth Ruth Brooks Harris in Martinsville, Virginia.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lorraine Ruth Stockton; brothers, Frank Edward Harris and Floyd Venton Harris, and granddaughter, Phelicia Alexandria Neblett.

Elizabeth was of the Christian faith and a devoted member of Jerusalem Christian Church. She graduated from Albert Harris High School and went into the workforce in the textile industry. She worked a combined three decades for Lacey Maufacturing and Hampco Manufacturing. Elizabeth later went on to work in the medical field as a CNA and a caretaker. She was driven by a heart of compassion and a love for others. From playing bingo to cooking and baking, she was the happiest when in the company of those whom she loved. Known as a lady who was down-to-earth, her contagious smile welcomed others into meaningful friendships. She loved her community and it was evident by the joy she had when cooking for Willie & Ruth’s Restaurant in Martinsville. At the end of the day, she poured her heart into helping others and would gladly do anything to help anyone.

Her life made an impact on those who knew and loved her, including her daughter, Cassandra Marie Venable (Guy Dillard); son, Lawrence Lacy Gibson Venable, III; sisters, Katie Harris Cook (Will), Naomi Aytch (Chris Kerrick), Martha Jane Harris; grandchildren, Ashley McGill (Carlton), Lawrence Lacy Gibson Venable, IV, Myia VazQuez (Isauro), Mariah Sada Venable; great-grandchildren, Lauren DeShay Venable, Jordan Malik Venable, Irieyon Denique Turner, Le'Lani Gizelle Venable, Lawrence Lacy Gibson Venable, V, and Aniya LaShay McGill.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 19, 2025 @ 2:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Lewis Waller officiating. Interment will follow at Fair Haven Memorial Park. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
