Elizabeth "Betty" Messick Holsinger

June 23, 1931 - January 8, 2025

Elizabeth Messick “Betty” Holsinger, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, after a brief illness. She was born June 23, 1931, to Thomas Warren and Florence Chladek Messick in Roanoke, Virginia. Betty grew up in Salem, Virginia at the family home.

Betty met and married her loving husband, Dr. Donald Rider Holsinger and they lived in Columbus, Ohio and Rochester, Minnesota before moving to Martinsville in 1963. Betty was a wonderful homemaker, wife and mother to her three daughters.

She enjoyed entertaining family and friends and was an excellent cook. Betty also enjoyed playing tennis and was an avid golfer. She loved traveling with her husband and often friends, taking numerous trips to many countries throughout the world. In more recent years, Betty enjoyed playing cards with her daughter, Betsy and friends.

Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church of Martinsville. She was a member of Charity League of Martinsville and Henry County, the Wednesday Book Club, the Women of Philanthropy, Garden Study Club of Martinsville and a First United Methodist Church Circle member.

Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Dr. Donald R. Holsinger, daughters Elizabeth Ann “Betsy” Holsinger and Laura Jane Holsinger. Also preceded, were her parents, Mother and Father-in-Law, Dr. Eldon and Eula Holsinger, Sister, Lou M. Sherrill, Sisters-in-Law, Martha H. Callahan and Jean M. Messick, Brother-in-Law, Eldon “Buddy” Holsinger, Nephew, Theodore “Rolf” Hamre, and Granddaughter, Erin Katrina “Katie” Marsh.

Betty is survived by her loving daughter, Nancy Holsinger Joyce (Tom), Brother, Roger Messick, Granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann “Liz” Marsh, Great grandchildren, Taylor Catherine Cobb, Rider Austin Cobb, Charlee Kate Wyatt, Nova Gray Shively and Cain Thomas Coleman, numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the donor’s choice.
