Elmer Kenneth Townley
ELMER KENNETH TOWNLEY
“GRAMPS”
11/04/1939 – 12/12/2023
Elmer passed away on December 12, 2023 at his home, with his family by his side.
Elmer was born November 4, 1939 to Cecil Wagner Townley and Elvira Kirby Davis Townley, in Bland, VA. He served in the United States Air Force before he was honorably discharged due to his father becoming ill. Elmer then became kind of a jack of all trades and did a little bit of everything.
He had multiple nicknames throughout the years, some of which included “Luke”, “Elmer Fud”, “Emmie” and then “Gramps,” once the great-grandkids came along.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil & Elvira Townley, a brother, Herman Townley and two sisters, Beulah (“Tom”) Townley and Kathleen (“Kat”) Puckett.
Left to cherish his memory is his lifetime partner, Eula Mae Catterton. When they became one, Elmer, of course, considered and treated her family as his own, just as they did him.
So, as part of this shared family, he also leaves behind his daughters, Sue (James “Peanut”) Cregger and Dorie (Mike-deceased) Shupe; his grandchildren, Amie (Robert) Newberry, Christina (Eric) Gray, Annette (Wayne) Dax, Michael Shupe and Kirby Shupe; his great-grandchildren, Jasmine Newberry, Camden Newberry, Evan Gray, Parker Jones and Kylie Shupe.
Also left to cherish his memory include his nephew, Gregory (Patti) Puckett; his niece, Deborah Hicks; his great-niece, Katie Mallory; great-great nephews, Landon Carter and London Mallory; and great-great niece, Leighton Mallory.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Wythe Hospice of Southwest Virginia, with special recognition to his nurse, Amy M.
Per his wishes, he will be cremated and his family will hold a small celebration of his life at a later date.
The Townley family is in the care of A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate, avestandsons.com, (540) 921-2985.
