Elsie Chitwood

Elsie Merriman Chitwood, 89, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024. She was born March 28, 1934, in Spencer, Virginia, to the late Rue Merriman and Ethel Mills Merriman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Chitwood; sisters; Mary Pickurel, Hazel, and Lucille Merriman; brothers, Robert, and Thomas Merriman.

Elsie loved her children and grandchildren. She spent time studying the Bible, loved crafting, traveling, and cooking.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Ramsey (Neil); son, Stephen Chitwood (Jackie); sister, Grace Taylor; brother, Moyer Merriman (Peggy); grandchildren, Julia Wilshire (Joshua), Allen Ramsey (Karell), Jennifer Gary (Casey), Brittney Chitwood (Landon) and Christopher Chitwood (Kristal); seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be Thursday, February 1, 2024, at 2:00 pm, at Henry Memorial Park with Reverend Lewis Harris officiating.
