Elsie Dodson Roberts-Herndon
Elsie Dodson Roberts-Herndon, 96, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 3, 1928 in Pittsylvania County, VA to the late Evelyn Walton Dodson and the late Luther B. Dodson. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Mr. Johnnie Preston Roberts, as well as her second husband, Mr. Charles Herndon.
Elsie was of the Christian Faith and a long time member of Rivermont Baptist Church. She worked for twenty eight years as a secretary for Dr. B.D. Jason previous to her retirement. Previous to that she worked at Belk Leggetts, Sears, and also volunteered at SOVAH Health Hospital. She was also a member of the Mt. Tabor Loyalty Club, Margaret Hankins Homemakers Club, and the Red Hat Society. She also had a special love for traveling and gardening.
Elsie is survived by a daughter; Lisa Walker and husband Kim of Ringgold, VA; a grandson; Johnnie Walker and wife Denise of Chatham, VA; two great grandchildren; Chloe and Clayton Walker; two sisters; Fleetwood D. Chaney and Shirley D. Raynor both of Danville, VA; three brothers; L.B. Dodson Jr., M. Ray Dodson both of Danville, VA, and Johnnie C. Dodson and wife Linda of Ringgold, VA; along with many nieces, nephews, and lots of friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Elsie was predeceased by two sisters; Ruby D. Jones and Earlene D. Battermon; and three brothers; Manuel T. Dodson, Willie J. Dodson, and Howard N. Dodson.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the loving and caring staff at Roman Eagle Nursing Home on the East wing for everything they have done. Also, she leaves behind a special roommate there, Mrs. Gay Boswell.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 11:00am at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, 3995 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, VA, with Reverend Michael Wiles Sr. officiating. A visitation will be held on the same day prior to the service from 10-11:00am also at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel. Interment will follow the funeral at Highland Burial Park, Danville, VA. At other times the family will be receiving friends at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Lisa Walker.
