Erma Powell Mason

June 5, 1938 - July 26, 2025

Erma Jean Mason was a classy woman. Freshly turning 87, Erma was loved by many across Lynchburg, VA, due to her go-getter spirit. She attended Thomas Road Baptist Church and was a Bedford County school bus driver for 58 years. She was the first woman driver for the Lynchburg Transit Company. She also had a job working as a hostess for Abbott Bus Lines for many years. Erma loved to travel, and she would try to do so with her loved ones several times a year.

She loved her five children: Roxanne Miear, Nancy Lewis, Rhonda Cesafsky, Regina Mason, and Jay Mason; her thirteen grandchildren; and her nineteen great-grandchildren with everything she had.

She was always active and poured so much love into their life. She spent her free time volunteering at the Forest Fire Department Auxiliary and performing song/dance in choir and in a traveling entertainment group called The Ageless Wonders. Erma was a bright light to everybody the moment she walked into the room. She has truly left a significant impact in this world and to the people in it. Due to her faith in Jesus Christ, we rejoice in her peaceful homegoing.

Special regards to her dear friend Bobby Moon.

The family wishes to express special thanks to all Medical Personnel Erma encountered, especially at UVA, Pearson Cancer Center, and Gentle Shepherd Hospice.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomas Road Baptist Church Pate Chapel officiated by Pastor Rick Rasberry. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in Bruner Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to a charity close to Erma's heart, St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38102.
