Ernest Clyburn McLeod

April 9, 1955 - October 21, 2022

Ernie C. McLeod, 67, of Blacksburg, Va suddenly departed this life on Friday, October 21, 2022.  He was predeceased in death by his parents, Ernest C., Sr., and Margaret Faile McLeod, and his oldest sister, Beth McLeod Sindler.

Ernie was born in Sumter, SC.  As an Air Force brat, he and his family lived in a number of places including South Carolina, Texas and the Phillipines.  Ernie attended the University of South Carolina, and Clemson University before obtaining his Bachelors degree from Averett University and Masters Degree in Finance from VCU, after moving to Virginia.  He was employed with Virginia Power at the Surry Power Plant, and Richmond, Va, Louisa County and Goochland County governments, and finally the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport.  Ernie was a member of Blacksburg Baptist Church.

Ernie loved sports and he became an avid supporter of Virginia Tech athletics and a die-hard Hokie fan after marrying a Virginia Tech alum.  He was also a life-long fan of the Dallas Cowboys.  He enjoyed reading, photography, traveling, and spending time over the years with close friends.

Left to cherish his memory is his much beloved wife of 37 years, Karleen Flinchum McLeod, sister-in-law, Kelda Flinchum of Salem, VA, sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Jake Williams of New Orleans, LA, Robert Sindler, brother-in-law, of Sorrento, FL, four nephews and three nieces, and a circle of close friends including Palmer and Teresa Bland, Ricky and Martha Ellis, Rick and Sue Pemberton, Vic and Sharon Poteat, and Nelson and Jacque Simmers.  He will also be greatly missed by his two special canine companions, Beau and Camden.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Blacksburg Rescue Squad or the Montgomery County Humane Society.  A celebration of Ernie’s life may be held at a later date.
