Ernest "Gene" Eugene McCluskey

Ernest McCluskey 1940 - 2023 Gene McCluskey, 83, of Rocky Mount, Virginia, passed away on November 6, 2023. He was born on May 24, 1940, in Wardell, Missouri, to the late Ernest L. McCluskey and Effie McCluskey. Gene, also known as Ernest Eugene McCluskey, was a kind and generous man who had a soft spot for children and animals. He had a playful and goofy nature, but could also be stern and serious when needed. Gene loved life and embraced all that it had to offer. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and cherished every opportunity to be in nature. Gene proudly served our country for 30 years in the U.S. Navy. He held numerous world record flights during his time in the Navy, showcasing his exceptional skills. After his dedicated service, Gene retired from the Navy. In addition to his military associations, Gene had a successful career. He was respected and accomplished in his field, leaving behind a legacy of excellence. Gene McCluskey will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Patricia McCluskey, his children, Summer St. Peter, Kimberly Burnett, Brandon McCluskey, Scott Dillon, his grandchildren, Austin Dillon (Lilian Davis), Dylan Burnett, Dustin Shelton, Hunter St.Peter, Carson McCluskey, Ashleigh Dillon, Arya St.Peter, Scharlie Dillon, Mac McCluskey, Sierra Burnett, Layla St.Peter, Sarah McCluskey, and his great granddaughter Hazel Dillon. He is also survived by his brother, Dick Atwill, and his brothers James McCluskey and Michael McCluskey. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest L. McCluskey and Effie McCluskey, as well as his brothers Donnie McCluskey, Dale McCluskey, Vernon McCluskey, and Raymond McCluskey. He was also preceded in death by his sons, Gregory McCluskey and Patrick McCluskey. Gene McCluskey's life will be celebrated with a service held at Henry Fork Community Church on November 13th at 4pm. Contributions in his memory can be made to the Ronald McDonald House, a cause close to Gene's heart.
