Essie Dickerson Goad

Essie Dickerson Goad, age 95 of Henry, VA went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, December 28, 2023. She was born on May 15,1928, in Floyd, VA to the late James Taylor and Roxie Lena Dickerson.

Essie was a beloved wife of 67 years to the late Brainard C. Goad. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Sue Goad; son, Roger Dale "Peanut" Goad; grandson, Josh Goad; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Hundley; and great-grandson, Conner "Bean" Williams.

Essie was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who had the privilege to know her. She was a long-time member of Prillaman Baptist Church, where she loved to spend time worshipping with her church family. If you knew Essie, you knew how much she loved the Lord. There will be an empty place on her pew but she will be rejoicing and singing with us in Heaven.

She is survived by her son, David Goad and wife Sue of Roanoke, VA; daughter-in-law, Hilda Goad; grandchildren, Lisa Hundley and husband Matt, Melissa Broadstreet and husband Bruce, Monica Tatum and husband Tim, Chris Goad and wife Nacasha, Christy Williams and husband Brian, Michael Goad all of Henry, VA; numerous great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Prillaman Baptist Church, Ferrum, VA or Henry Community Center, Henry VA.

Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel, 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 30, 2023. Interment will follow in Henry Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to services at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
