Esther Joan Davis

April 20, 1936 - June 26, 2024

Esther Joan Davis, 88, of Salem, Virginia went to be with the Lord June 26, 2024. She was born in Bluefield West Virginia on April 20, 1936, to the late Ralph Hager and Myrtle Tabor Hager.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded by her husband, Leonard Davis; brothers, Clayton Gibson, and Ralph Hager, Jr.; sister-in-law, Josephine Gibson; and niece, Dr. Sharyn Gibson.

Esther was devoted to the Lord her entire life. She diligently studied the Word of God and ensured her children were raised in the same manner. She was a talented musician who composed her own songs, led praise and worship, and played the piano in numerous churches for over 40 years. During her youth, she and Leonard worked with the evangelist Oral Roberts.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Judy McGarvey (Mike), Betty Davis, and Dr. Janet Neal; sister-in-law, Betty Hager; niece, Esma Campbell (Guy); nephews, Nick Hager (Jennifer) and Darrell Hager (Tammy); as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 29, 2024, at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home located in Salem, VA with a service beginning at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Mike McGarvey and Pastor Ryan Linkous officiating. The interment will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2024, at Roselawn Memorial Park located in Princeton, WV.

A special thank you to the nurses and staff at The Health Center at Richfield Salem. Their extraordinary love and care for Esther made her life joyful in her later years.
