Esther Lena Gipson

Esther Lena Gipson of Fieldale, Virginia, passed away on September 12, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on March 30, 1937, in Martinsville, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Willie Dandridge and Lena Tatum Dandridge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richmond Gipson Jr.; her children, Troy Marcus Dandridge and Sheldon Alonzo Dandridge; and her siblings, James Dandridge, Claude Dandridge, Mattie Ferrell, Thelma Carson, and Melvin Douglas Dandridge.

Esther was a devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where she sang with the Senior Choir. She dedicated many years of her life to serving her family and community. Her career at the Dutch Inn and Martinsville Novelty, leaving a lasting impression on those who knew her. Esther had a passion for cooking, cleaning, and organizing, but above all, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her warm sense of humor brought joy to those around her, and she loved making others smile.

She is survived by her loving children, Irvin Gipson (Cynthia), Cyrice Donnel Dandridge, Dora Lee Gipson Doumbia, and Tina Marie Gipson Vaughn. Esther is also cherished by her ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor Benjamin Redd officiating. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens.
