Ethel Colombia Hudson Waldron

Ethel Hudson Waldron, 95, of Salem, Va., passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025. Born on November 14, 1929, to the late Andy Henry Hudson and Lena Irene Martin Hudson. She was the youngest of five children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Hudson Boyd (Ernest), and Thelma Hudson Beamer (Jack); two brothers, Bronsy Hudson (Dorothy), and Charles Hudson (Polly); her husband of sixty-eight and a half years, Jean Mitchell Waldron; her son, Jean Mitchell Waldron, II; and her gift from God and daughter-in-law, Peggy Lucas Waldron.

She received her education from Roanoke County and Salem Schools. Ethel was a member of North Roanoke Baptist church for sixty years. She was a member of the Roanoke Valley Ladies Home Builders Auxiliary, the Roanoke Valley Sports Club where she served on the Board of Directors, and a member of the Hillcrest Eastern Star. Ethel was also a member of the Hidden Valley Country Club for over fifty years and was active in the Ladies Golf Association for fifty plus years, which was very much a part of her life and many, many treasured friendships were formed, and she treasured each one.

Ethel is survived by seven nieces, Jacquline Butler (Jim), Betty Lou Brown, Kathy Hudson, Donna Williams (Keith), Carolyn Deyerle Johnson (Richard), Karen Waldron Ricci (Shawn), Amy Waldron Del Valle (Martin); four nephews, Jackson Beamer (Valerie), Barry Hudson, Dr. William Dyerle (Linda), and Alan Waldron all of whom she loved very much.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.

Friends may visit with the family from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service.
