Evelene Orie Carter
Evelene Orie Carter, 95, passed away September 8, 2024, at Martinsville Health and Rehabilitation. She was born November 11, 1928, in Fries, Virginia, to the late George Washington Haga and Lillie Bond Haga. She is preceded in death by her husband Glenn Jackson Carter; two brothers, Ralph Haga, and Bobby Gene Haga; three sisters, Beatrice Akers, Betty Mae Alley, JoAnne Brewer.
Evelene was a devoted member of Community Baptist Church and was affectionately known as "Tink" by her siblings, a nickname that stuck with her throughout her life among family. She had a sweet tooth for Hershey Chocolate Bars and a special love for red roses, which bloomed beautifully at her home each summer. A talented and passionate cook, she delighted in preparing meals for loved ones.
Music was another joy in Evelene's life. Coming from a musically gifted family, she played the guitar and appreciated a wide variety of genres. Above all, Evelene cherished the time she spent with her family and friends, making lasting memories with those she loved most.
She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Ann C. Harrington and Nancy Ruth C. Agee (Donnie); two son, Jackie Ray Carter and Ronnie Lee Carter; seven grandchildren, McKenzie Harrington, Courtney Harrington Eure – Hart (Doug), Ariel Harrington- Grodensky (Shawn) , Corey Agee (Angela), Aaron Carter, Lisa Carter and Logan Carter and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A Burial will follow at Henry Memorial Park.
