Evelyn Jones

Evelyn M. Jones, 97 originally of Elliston, passed from her home on earth and on to her heavenly home on Wednesday, September 6, 2023. At the time of her passing, Evelyn had been residing at Heritage Hall Nursing Home, in Blacksburg.

Evelyn was born on August 17, 1926, in Roanoke County, Va. She was employed at Meadowbrook Nursing Home with 25 years of service and was a member of the Elliston Church of God for many, many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Josie Starkey; her late husband, Rev. William Morris Jones; five brothers; five sisters; son, Gary Jones; daughter, Carolyn Blanchard; granddaughters, Cindy J. Sommers and Karla Melton; grandson, Randy Jones; and great-granddaughter, Makayla Melton.

Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her children, Douglas Jones (Liz), Randolph Jones (Mary); daughter-in-law, Sharon Jones; son-in-law, Bob Blanchard; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

It goes without saying, but Evelyn will certainly be missed by her family and numerous friends.

Our thanks to Doug, “Jr.” and Julie Jones; grandchildren to Evelyn, who were there for the whole journey, as well as all that assisted with Evelyn’s care.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 8, 2023, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the John M. Oakey and Son funeral home, in Salem. Funeral services will start at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

A private graveside service will be conducted at the East Hill Cemetery in Elliston.
