Evelyn Stephens Harrison

Evelyn Stephens Harrison, 93, died peacefully Friday, January 5, 2024 at Piney Forest Health & Rehabilitation Center, Danville, VA, after one year of declining health. She was the last surviving member of her generation.

Born May 18, 1930 in Yanceyville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Vonnie Stephens and Ida Oliver Stephens. She moved to Danville, VA in her early 20’s. She was a member of St. Mark Pentecostal Holiness Church for over 60 years.

Mrs. Harrison retired from J. C. Penney Company. She loved her church family and was devoted to her church. She served faithfully as Sunday School teacher, member of the church Board and Secretary/Treasurer of St. Mark. She was a loving mother and wife and a gentle spirited devout Christian.

She is survived by two children, Gerald S. Harrison (Betsy) and Teresa Lawless (Ronnie), six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harrison was predeceased by her loving husband, Harrell Harrison, three brothers, one sister and two great-grandchildren, Connor Alexander and Joshua Lawless.

A funeral service will be conducted Friday, January 12, 2024 at 11:00 p.m. at St. Mark Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1201 South Boston Rd, Danville, VA 24541, officiated by Dr. Thomas J. Foley. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Danville. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service (10:00 – 11:00 a.m.), also at the church.
