Evonuier Spencer

Evonuier Spencer, 88, of Martinsville, Virginia, entered her eternal rest Thursday, September 19, 2025. She was born September 25, 1936, in Henry County, Virginia, to the late Cephus J. Craighead and Mickie Penn Craighead.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Spencer, Jr.; son, Frederick G. Spencer; sisters, Hazel C. Finney, Mary C. Gravely, Delmer Schoefield; brothers, Joseph Craighead, Fred Craighead, James Craighead, Stafford Craighead, and Elder Buford Craighead.

Evonuier was of the Christian faith and a member of Christian View Missionary Baptist Church where she found a loving faith community. She loved her Savior and being with His people at church each week. She attended historic Rock Run School in Henry County and went on to care for children in the community. Her nurturing heart to care for others was evident in the love she gave to so many children over the years. She found joy in going to church, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and cooking meals for her family.

Her legacy of love and faith will be forever embedded in the hearts of her family and friends. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Freda Spencer and Tiffany Cooper; son, Marcus Spencer; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A funeral will be held Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Christian View Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Greg Perkins officiating. Interment will follow at Finney/Craighead Family Cemetery located at 228 Waycross Drive, Fieldale, Virginia, 24089. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
