Florence "Flo" Ellen Sheppard

Florence Ellen Adkins Sheppard, 90 years old, of Salem, Virginia passed away peacefully on October 18, 2023, with family at her bedside.

She was a resident of Richfield Health Center for 8 months.

Florence was born Monday, July 31, 1933, to Frank Spencer and Bertha Smith Adkins of Mccoy, Virginia. Florence was one of eleven children. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, John Adkins, Fred Adkins, Safford Adkins, Clarence Adkins, Robert Adkins, Ernest Adkins, Frank (Tiny) Adkins, and sister, Hazel Adkins. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Croy, and brother, Russell Adkins.

She was also predeceased by grandsons, Brian Wayne Andrews and Justin Grandfield Sheppard, daughter-in-law, Deanna Grinnell Sheppard.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years Dale Sheppard, children, Ronnie Sheppard, Connie and Nicole Sheppard, Trish Hill, and Debbie and Mike Richardson. She is also survived by five grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

To say that Memaw will be missed does not even cover the void in our lives. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother that anyone could ask for. She was soft-spoken, loving, and the strongest woman you could ever know.

Thank you to the staff at Richfield Health Center Serenity Cottage and Honeysuckle Cottage for the care you provided in the last eight months. A huge thank you to Amedisys Hospice for all the loving care provided by the entire team. You will never know how much it was appreciated.

No funeral services are scheduled at the request of the family. A private graveside service will be held private at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Fort Lewis Fire Rescue located in Salem, Virginia.
