Florence Janet Wirt

On May 4th, 2023, Florence Wirt age 88 of Salem Va., went home to rest with her personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a beloved wife, sister, mother, and grandmother. Florence was born on January 14, 1935, to Malachi and Grace Davis in Lynchburg, VA.

She loved God first and her family dearly and was a competitive player at family game night with her children and grandkids. She was a homemaker and loved teaching the children in the neighborhood about the Lord through the Good News Club. She also loved teaching Sunday School, sharing her faith with everyone she spoke to, and traveling with the love of her life, Dan, as they became snowbirds during each winter.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents Malachi and Grace Davis, her husband of 68 yrs. Dan Wirt, her sister Beatrice Burton, her brother Harvey Davis, Son-in-law Kenny Conner.

Those left to cherish the memories are her children, Wanda Conner, Teresa Wirt, Sheila Perritt (Steve), Brian Wirt (Kristie); grandchildren, Jessica Washburn (Matt), Christina Tatum (Tyler), Mindy Maxwell (Jonathan), Andy Conner (Hailey), Daphne Wagner (Eric), great-grandchildren; Caleb Maxwell, Payton Maxwell, Kadence Washburn, Parker Tatum, Mack Tatum, Luke Wagner, Matthias Wagner.

The family would like to thank Carillion Hospice and Good Samaritans Hospice along with the staff of Care Companion, Roberta, Dana, Theresa and Sharon and additional care givers Kim and Kristen. They loved our mom and took great care of her the last 18 months of her life. We would also like to thank her sister-in-law’s, Marci, Betty, and Rose for their many visits. Mom always loved to see them and enjoyed their company.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. with the service at 11 a.m. on Saturday May 6th, 2023, at Riverside EMC, 1920 Lucas Street, Salem Va. with Pastor Brian Gordon. Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery, Salem, Va.
