Frances Marie McAlexander Rakes, age 80, of Fieldale, VA passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024.

Frances was born on November 23, 1943 to the late Homer Quinten McAlexander and Margaret Austin McAlexander. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Larry James Rakes and a son-in-law, James Darwin Thomas.

One of Frances’ greatest pleasures was spending time with her family, especially her great-grandson, A.J. She was also a devoted long-time member of Mount Bethel United Methodist Church. She retired from Dupont in 1992.

Frances is survived by two daughters, Connie Tuck (David) of Bedford, and Laura Thomas of Collinsville; two grandchildren, Aubrey James Thomas of Bristol, WI, and Mikayla Thomas of Ridgeway, VA; two great-grandchildren, A.J. Santillo of Collinsville and Maddox Thomas of Bristol, WI; a sister, Virginia Ann Jessee of Bassett, VA; a special cousin, Joan Martin; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 30 Riverside Hwy, Bassett, VA. The funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.

The following will serve as pallbearers: David Tuck, Aubrey Thomas, Charles Jessee, Dwayne Tuggle, Stance Orange, Chris Giles, and A.J. Santillo (honorary pallbearer).

In lieu of flowers the family invites donations to Mount Bethel United Methodist Church, 63 Mt. Bethel Church Circle, Martinsville, VA 24112.
