Frances Pruitt Oakes

Frances Pruitt Oakes, age 92 of Chatham, Virginia passed away Thursday, August 21, 2025 at her residence. Mrs. Oakes was born October 11, 1932 to the late Susie Belle Pruitt and the late William Pruitt. She was married to the late Leonard Woody Oakes.

She was a member of Oak Ridge Christian Church. She will always be remembered as a kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to everyone who knew her.

She is survived by six daughters, Angela Oakes Holley, Jenny Oakes Adkins (Mike), Donna Oakes, Janet Oakes Wolfe (Travis), Robin Oakes Blankenship (Jeff), and Wendy Oakes Thornton (Larry); six grandchildren, Misty Holley VanZyl (Casper), Joshua Adkins, Colby Hammock (Hannah), Casey Hammock Thorn (Ben), Chloe Hammock, and Callie Hammock; six great-grandchildren, Gabriel Johnson, Jed Hammock, Cullen Hammock, Gannon Hammock, Hadleigh Hammock; and Elise Thorn.

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was also predeceased by her daughter, Nancy Oakes; her son-in-law, Philip Reid Holley; and brothers, Howard Pruitt and Calvin Pruitt.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, August 24, 2025, 2:00 p.m. at Oak Ridge Christian Church with Pastor Kenneth McFarling officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakes Family Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., also at Oak Ridge Christian Church.

At other times, the family will receive friends and family at the residence.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request monetary donations be made to Donna Oakes for the upkeep of the Hayden-Reynolds-Oakes Family Cemetery.
