Frankie Cochran Shockley
Frankie Cochran Shockley, 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 21, 2025.
She was born in Radford to the late William H. and Eva McDaniel Baker. Frankie graduated from Radford High School, and shortly thereafter, began her banking career at People’s National Bank in Radford. She and her husband Wesley moved to Salem in 1959 and made it their permanent home. She was employed for a time at Rowe Furniture Company and then spent the next thirty-two years serving her customers at First Virginia Bank of the Southwest. She loved interacting with her loyal customers, as well as, getting to know and enjoy new people.
Frankie was a dedicated and supportive member of Salem Baptist Church, serving in many capacities over the years. She especially enjoyed her Sunday School class and her membership in the Christian Seniors Group, B.A.L.L.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Wesley Cochran, after forty years of marriage, and by her husband, Lloyd Shockley, after fourteen years of marriage; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy Franklin and Charles Franklin; her twin sister and brother-in-law, Frances Parks and Kenneth Parks. Left to cherish her memory are her sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Pete Beller of Radford, and twelve nieces and nephews. The family appreciates and is very grateful to a special niece and caretaker, Pamela Rigney.
Frankie loved her church, her family and friends, and decorating her house! She was especially fond of her canine friends Daisy Mae, Buffy, and Sugar. Frankie will always be remembered for her kindness and compassion for others, her engaging sense of humor, her soft-spoken and gentle spirit, and for being a true friend to all who knew her.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 2 p.m. in the chapel at John M. Oakey & Son in Salem, with the Rev. Heath Rickmond officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Private interment will be at the Appalachian Conference Cemetery in Dublin. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Salem Baptist Church, 103 N. Broad St., Salem, VA 24153. The family sincerely appreciates the staff at The Oaks, Friendship-Richfield, Salem, for their caring, loving, and compassionate concern and also to Good Samaritan Hospice for their consistent, supportive care.
