Franklin Monroe Riggs

Mr. Franklin Monroe Riggs, age 91 of Mount Airy, passed away on Thursday morning, April 6, 2023, at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living Facility in Mount Airy. Mr. Riggs was born August 20, 1931, in Surry County to the late Brady and Lila Snow Riggs. Franklin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant in the Korean Conflict. Franklin will be deeply missed by all that knew him. Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Jessie Lee Frost Riggs; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim Riggs and Margaret, Tommy Riggs, Tony Riggs and Teresa, Travis Riggs; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Pam and David Flippin; stepson and step daughter-in-law, Greg and Debbie Edwards; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a special sister, Ellen Riggs Freeman; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Riggs was preceded in death by four sisters, Louise Riggs Tucker, Lorene Riggs Marion, Irene Riggs Collins, Dorothy Riggs Casey; and three brothers, Elmer Riggs, Delmar Riggs, and Brady Riggs, Jr; and a daughter-in-law, Sherry Riggs. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Rev. Brian Knight officiating. Interment will follow in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Dobson with Military honors conducted by the VFW Honor Guard Post 2019 Mount Airy and Post 9436 Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
