Fred Carlton Lee

January 7, 1929 - March 22, 2025

Fred Carlton Lee “ The Lawn Mower Man,” of Salem, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Born in Botetourt County Virginia, on January 7, 1929, to the late Herman O and Lura Mayberry Lee, he is also predeceased by his loving wife Joyce Crotts Lee, as well as siblings, Harless, Ray Grover, Gladys, Jennings, Gene, Herman, and Jerry.

Fred was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War, and the Virginia National Guard proudly having served a total of 22 years. He was a longtime member of Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren, where he and Joyce partnered in ministry together.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Kathryn Lee, Joyce Lewis (Dwayne), Betty Lee (Jamie Watts), and Steve Underwood (Cornelia); sister, Annabelle Staples; he was greatly loved by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, in the Upper Parlor of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem. A graveside service will full military honors will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Pleasant Dale Memorial Park, Fincastle, with Pastor David Tozar officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren, 3732 Breckinridge Mill Rd, Fincastle, VA.
