Fred Douglas Gillispie

Fred Douglas Gillispie, 79, of Austinville, and formerly of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Lucille Gillespie; sister, Nancy Lee; and brother, Hugh Gillispie Jr.

Fred is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Karen Gillispie; children, Jeff Carpenter, Zshawn Douglas (Scott), Tracy Webb (Mike), and Jennifer Webb (Brian); grandchildren, Katie, Austin, Alex, Dakota, Jonathon, Justin, Derek, and Kurstin; great grandchildren, Adeline and a great grandson on the way; friend who was like a son, Reggie Thompson; special brother-in-law, Sidney Thomas (Sue); and numerous other friends.

Fred will be deeply missed, especially since he had such a huge heart. He loved to help others. He could make you laugh. He could make you cry. He could make you argue. His favorite pastime was to fish with his grandson, Jonathon. He would rather fish than eat. He also enjoyed camping, pitching horse shoes, and talking on his “CB” radio.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 12 noon at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019.
