Frederic "Fred" Dixon

November 13, 1936 - January 8, 2024

Frederic (Fred)Lee Dixon, 87, of Salem left this life and went to be with the Lord Monday, January 8, 2024.  He was born on November 13, 1936 in Bradley, West Virginia, to the late Frederick Leckie and Erma Lucille Raines Dixon.  He was married to the love of his life, the late Alta Faye Hughes Dixon for over 50 years.  Also proceeding him in death, his son-in-law Kenneth Parks, Jr and his grandson Taylor Dixon Parks.

He graduated with a BS in education majoring in PE and science from Concord College in Anthens, West Virginia, and later with a MA in Elementary School Administration majoring in Psychology and History from Radford University.

He started teaching at Andrew Lewis High School and then was principal at William Byrd Jr High, Fort Lewis Elementary and Glenvar Elementary schools, finally retiring in 1991.

Fred was an active member at Fort Lewis Baptist Church, participating in the choir, teaching Sunday School and serving as a deacon for many years.  He loved sharing his faith and the gospel with all.

Fred will be remembered for his love of his family,  fishing (especially fly), hunting, (especially bow)working in his wife’s many flower beds, gardening and sharing his produce with everyone and being known as “candy man” for the kids at the end of church service..

Those left to cherish his memory are his son David (Lisa) Dixon of Salem, his daughter Alicia Dixon Parks of Salem, Grandson Josh Parks (Christina), Shane Parks (Katelyn), granddaughter Holly (Michael) Lawrence, Matt (Kristine) Dixon,  9 great grandchildren:  Landen Archinal-Parks, Lucas, Lilly, Micah, Leland Parks, Logan and Hadley Lawrence, Emory and Landon Dixon.

The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem on Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 11:00 am until Noon. A funeral service will follow in the chapel of Lotz Funeral Home in Salem at Noon. Burial will be in Sherwood Memorial Park.
