Frieda Mae Shockley

Frieda Shockley, 91, went to be with the Lord on December 19, 2024. Born in 1933, Frieda was a woman of great faith, kindness, and strength. She lived a life full of love and devotion to her family, her community, and her Lord.

For many years, Frieda served as a bus driver for Roanoke County and Salem, where she was known for her warm heart, patience, and dedication. She touched the lives of many students and residents, always going above and beyond with her smile and gentle spirit. Her work, like her life, was defined by a commitment to serving others.

Frieda was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Webb Shockley Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Gracie Patsel (Richard); her sons, Marvin W. Shockley Jr. (Cathy), David C. Shockley, and Allen N. Shockley. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Frieda will be deeply missed, but we find comfort knowing she is now in the presence of the Lord and reunited with loved ones who passed before her.

In accordance with Frieda’s wishes, she will be cremated, and a private memorial service will be held for close family and friends at a later date. The family plans to celebrate her life during a warmer season, allowing everyone to gather in remembrance and gratitude for the gift of her life.

Frieda also requested to be joined with her mother and father in Coalwood, WV, where her ashes will be interred.
