Gail G. Delello

Gail G. Delello, 72, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026.

Born and raised in Bassett, Gail was a proud graduate of Bassett High School and later continued her education at Patrick & Henry Community College. She devoted over 30 years of service to Martinsville Hospital, where she worked as a Nurse Secretary, Monitor Technician, and Nursing Aide. Her compassion for others also led her to serve her community as an EMT in Henry County for four years.

Gail had a deep love for capturing life’s moments through photography and was known as an avid photographer. She also gave her time and heart to youth in the community as a dedicated Girl Scout and troop leader. Her faith was an important part of her life. She was formerly a member of Bassett United Methodist Church and most recently a devoted member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Gail is survived by her loving husband, David Delello; her brother, John Fretwell; her niece, Morgan Fretwell; her great-niece, Amber Fretwell; her sister-in-law Debbie Fretwell; Through marriage, she is also survived by her cherished bonus children: Jennifer Franklin (Derek), Tim Delello (Crystal), Joe Delello (Amanda), and Andrew Delello (Melissa). She also leaves behind many beloved bonus grandchildren: Ethan and Ellie Franklin; Abigail, Aysley, and Sydney Delello; and Emily, Tyler, and Mason Delello. Gail is further survived by extended Virginia family members Jerry Caudill Sr., and Jesse and Cathy McGrady.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawerence and Deforrest Fretwell; her brother, William Fretwell; and her niece Crystal Fretwell.

A memorial service celebrating Gail’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on March 21, 2026, at Tabernacle Baptist Church with a visitation one hour prior.
