Garland Ray Snow
Garland Ray Snow, Sr., departed for his eternal home on Friday, July 11, 2025.
He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Susan Sledd Snow; children, Angela, Garland, Jr. “Buzz” and his wife Kristy, and David and his girlfriend Michelle. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, including Lily, who held his hand and comforted her granddaddy the night he had the stroke and afterwards, always saying “granddaddy it’s going to be alright”. Garland also leaves behind a sister, Linda Joyce and her husband Jim; a brother-in-law, Mike Sledd and sister-in-law, Debbie Sinko; as well as many nieces and nephews along with their spouses whom he loved dearly.
We are grateful that he no longer struggles or suffers from the consequences of stroke and disease and that he is now in the presence of the Lord. Praise God!
He was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Ena; a brother, Guy; sisters, Edith “Tootsie” and Shirley.
Garland worked for Norfolk Southern for over 40 years, and in better times he enjoyed hunting and fishing and he made many friends who shared his passion. He was a loyal fan of his beloved New York Yankees ever since he was a boy.
During these last few years his constant, loyal companion has been his lab, “Buddy”, and most recently his labradoodle, “Rosie”.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 19, 2025 from 12 noon until 1 p.m. and will be followed by a Celebration of Garland’s life at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road.
