Garland Stull
Garland Eugene “Gene” Stull, age 80, of 245 Hooks Mill Lane, Rich Patch, Virginia died on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia.
Gene was born on June 6,1945 in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late Odell Garland and Celia Beatrice Wilson Stull. He attended Central High School and graduated from Alleghany High School. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He worked as a water plant operator for the City of Covington before becoming a truck driver for Chemcore. Gene also ran a small farm in Rich Patch, and in his spare time enjoyed hunting & fishing, collecting coins and coke bottles, and visiting Gatlinburg. He had a passion for antique vehicles and going to car shows but especially loved his family.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Joyce Stull Bartley.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra “Kay” Kirby Stull, two daughters, Susan Gibson (Chris) and Shannon Simmons (Steven), and a brother, Billy W. Stull, all of Covington; three grandchildren, Hunter Gibson (Summer), Hannah May (Lucas), and Brantley Gibson; a great grandchild, Hartlee Gene; two step great grandchildren, Miyah Howard and Marlee Howard; three nieces and a nephew; and a special cousin, Dale Stull.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Pastor Shane Hiner officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Pallbearers will be Hunter Gibson, Brantley Gibson, Steven Simmons, Chris Gibson, Ivan Stull, Meade Stull, George Stull, and Lucas May. The family will visit with friends on Monday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home.
