Geneva Hicks Cooke

Mrs. Geneva Hicks Key Cooke, age 96 of Raleigh, North Carolina, formerly of Mount Airy, passed away on Saturday evening, December 7, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Cooke was born on May 26, 1928, in Surry County to the late James Pete and Mary Branson Hicks. Geneva was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie Matthews and Doug; grandchildren and spouses, Philip Matthews and Alex, Charlie Matthews and Elizabeth, Ashley James and Michael, Tyson Key and Aimee; great grandchildren, Hillary, Sutton, Brynlee, Davis, Cooper, Liam, Avery and Sawyer; great-great-grandchild, Heidi. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cooke is preceded in death by her first husband, M.C. Key, Jr., her second husband, Porter W. Cooke; two sons, David Key, Marvin Andy Key; and four brothers. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 11:00 AM at True Vine Baptist Church in Mount Airy with Reverend Rawley “Dink” Haynes, Jr., officiating. A private interment will follow after the visitation. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, December 17, 2024, at Moody Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM.
