George Hosey
George Franklin Hosey, Sr., age 68, of 1323 South Lyman Avenue, Covington, Virginia died on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at his home in Covington.
George was born on January 6, 1958 in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late Kennen Keith and Mary Ann Bowen Hosey. He received his education at both Central High School and Alleghany High School. He was a member of Midway Christian Church. Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, as well as watching football, and his favorite NFL team was the Kansas City Chiefs. He was an avid gardener, raising vegetables to share with those in his neighborhood. George especially loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by five sisters, Isabella Hosey, Edith May, Christine Hosey Ervin, Lytha Ann Hosey, and Teresa Jane Hosey, and a brother, Charles Michael “Mike” Hosey (Adah).
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Rebecca Lynn “Becky” Vance Hosey of Covington; two daughters, Becky Ann Hosey Simmons (Harry Lee) and Mary Beth Hosey (Jonathan Sefcik); a son, George F. Hosey, Jr.; two sisters, Linda Kress and Pearl Tucker (Darrell); two brothers, Keith Hosey (Darlene) and Wendell Hosey; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Michael Fisher and Pastor Billy Robertson officiating. Due to current weather conditions, the services will conclude at Nicely Funeral Home. Interment will be made at a later date in Lone Star Cemetery, Covington. Honorary pallbearers will be as follows; George Hosey, Jr., Jonathan Sefcik, David Via, Mark Cary, William Vance, Kenny Kress, Harry Simmons, Marcus Jordan, and Alan Franklin. The family will visit with friends on Sunday afternoon, from 1:00 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
