George Joseph Doeppe, Jr. of Appomattox, Virginia

George Joseph Doeppe, Jr, 78, of Appomattox, died Friday, May 5, 2023, in Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Alice Stokes Doeppe for 59 years.
Born in Richmond, March 2, 1945, he was a son of the late Elizabeth Denson and George Joseph Doeppe, Sr. George spent two tours of duty in Vietnam while proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was the most patriotic person there ever was. George loved to fish and he helped all his kids in the building of their homes. He was an avid reader especially concerning WWII and was a cancer survivor since 2008.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, George Deoppe, III, and wife, Julie of Appomattox, Patrick Deoppe of Stanardsville, Piper Doeppe and Mason Heidt of Lynchburg and Jonathan Doeppe of Appomattox; seven grandchildren, Katherine, George J. IV, Robert, Ayla, Allistair, Dylan and Aeristan; three great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Cooper and Cash; niece of heart, Kelsea Wagner of Lynchburg.
He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Doeppe.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Father Jim Gallagher officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post # 104 and VFW #9855 combined honor guard.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Robinson Funeral Home.
