Geraldine A. Hackert

November 23, 1951 - May 20, 2025

Geraldine A. Hackert passed away at her home in Blacksburg, VA on May 20, 2025 at the age of 73. She was born in Torrington, CT on November 23, 1951, the daughter of the late Jerry B. Milanese and Isabel J. Milanese. After graduating from Florida State University with a degree in mathematics she completed her Master’s Degree in statistics at Virginia Tech. She was employed by Corning, Inc. in Corning, NY for 23 years and retired as a Corporate Planning Analyst. Geraldine met her best friend and husband, Mike, while both were employed at Corning and they married in 1997. She followed Mike and the Navy to Southern Maryland in 2004 where they spent 20 years living in their “McMansion.” They shared many adventures and travels together over their 27 years (although Mike always said it was 35 because they both knew from the start in 1990 that they were meant to be together). Geraldine was an avid reader and belonged to the Blacksburg “Newcomers” Club, which provides a sense of community no matter how long you have lived in Blacksburg. She also became active in her new church volunteering in the limited time her cancer treatment gave her. In Southern MD, Geraldine became a docent at St. Mary’s City. She then indirectly got Mike involved as a tall ship crew member, enjoying the adventures which that created. The City fully embraced her; volunteering at their new chapel earned her the nickname “Chapel Chick” which she hated but earned it by keeping the City’s Research Director on his toes. She always reminisced about how she loved the mountains and volunteering at Corning’s historical society learning open hearth cooking. She was so thankful she was able to live her final days in the mountains of Blacksburg. She is survived by her husband Michael Hackert of Blacksburg, VA and her sister Karen B. Worrall (David) of Burlington, CT. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
