Geraldine Ella Scholefield

Geraldine Ella Scholefield, 88, of Lynchburg VA, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Malon John McDowell and Sadie Ella Thomas McDowell.

Geraldine, born February 17, 1937, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend—known by all for the deep love she held for her family.

Family was the center of Geraldine’s world. She found immense joy in caring for those around her, especially her beloved grandchildren, whose lives she enriched with her constant presence and unwavering support. Whether it was a simple family dinner or a large gathering, Geraldine’s happiness was rooted in being surrounded by those she loved most.

A spirited traveler, Geraldine cherished the adventures she shared with her late husband, Donald, with whom she shared 56 beautiful years of marriage. Wherever life took him, she was faithfully by his side.

Geraldine’s warmth, generosity, and quiet strength left a lasting mark on everyone she met. Her legacy of love and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

In addition to her parents Geraldine was preceded in passing by her beloved husband Donald Scholefield; her brothers Virgil, Buddy, Wesley; and her sisters Pauline, Maxine and Eileen.

Those left to cherish Geraldine’s memory include her children Jennifer Thompson and her husband Scott, Jeanna Novak, Linda Weil and her partner Skip; her grandchildren Steven Thompson and his wife Kristin, Ashley Lindsay and her husband David, Lauren Novak, Tyler Hiner; and her great-grandchildren Michael and Abigail Thompson.

A graveside service for Geraldine will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 11:00 am at Fort Hill Memorial Park, officiated by Dr. Jeffrey Ritchey.
