Gertrude "Trudy" Thompson Wade

Gertrude “Trudy” Wade, 84, of Salem, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 3, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents; Dentzil and Dolly Thompson; and sister, Bonnie Dixon.

Trudy is survived by her loving husband, Danny Wade; children, Larry Wade (Traci), Vicky Poff (Ricky), Jerry Wade (Becky Flippen), and Darryl Wade (Tammy); grandchildren, Justin Wade, Jeremy Wade, Kelsey Wade, Daniel Poff, Victoria Poff, Brandon Wade, Amber Wade, and Mark Wade (Amanda); many great grandchildren; and special friend, Shirley Johnson.

Trudy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, with a welcoming heartwarming smile. She and Danny shared a wonderful life together for 67 years. Friends and family were always welcome in their home. She drove a school bus for Salem City and Roanoke County schools for 28 years, and was very much loved by her “kids”. She was often the pianist for her church, as well as for the singing group “Voices of Praise”. Nothing gave her more enjoyment than being with family and friends.

The family will have a Visitation on Friday, January 9, 2026 at Simpson Funeral Home (Peters Creek) from 12:00 – 1:00pm, followed by a Chapel Service at 1:00pm. Interment will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
