Gladys Stalnaker
Mrs. Gladys Elizabeth Downey Stalnaker, age 79, of Covington, died Monday, March 3, 2025, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Eldridge Stephenson (Whitey) Stalnaker.
Mrs. Stalnaker was born June 8, 1945 in Alleghany County, the daughter of the late Clarence Givens Downey and Anna Elizabeth Gallew Downey. A resident of this area for most of her life, she was employed as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) by the former Liberty House for a number of years. Gladys also did private sitting for several local residents. Mrs. Stalnaker was of the Pentecostal faith. In her spare time, Gladys enjoyed playing the lottery especially scratch tickets.
Mrs. Stalnaker is survived by two sons, Charles Stalnaker and wife, Julie of Blackshear, GA and Timothy Stalnaker of Jacksonville, FL; two daughters, Cynthia (Cyndi) Tingler and husband, Billy Boy of Covington and Debra Via and husband, Ryland of Covington; three brothers, Jack Downey of Fredericksburg, Bobby Downey of Clifton Forge and Gibby Downey of Covington; grandchildren, Tiffany Tingler (Jeremy Jenkins), Amber Randozzo (Dylan), Lucas Via (Kristina), Andrew Via, Darren Via (Sarah Burns), Dustin Stalnaker, Rhiannon Stalnaker, Gavin Stalnaker, Ivan Stalnaker; great grandchildren, Lexi Tingler, Colten Randozzo, Ty Randozzo, Kyleigh Via, Alyssa Via, Oakley Randozzo (Dollie) and Avery Via; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Stalnaker was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tonya Renee Tingler and a brother, Earnie Downey.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 7, 2025, from the chapel of Loving Funeral with Rev. Zack Royer officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery at a later date.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home and at the residence of Cynthia and Billy Tingler, 1801 Richmond St., Selma at other times.
