Glenda Kaye Niston Thomas

Mrs. Glenda Kaye Niston Thomas, 78, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 4, 2023, at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax, VA. Mrs. Thomas was born October 16, 1944, in Surry County, one of eight children born to the late Robert Allen and Ora Geneva Cockerham Niston. Kaye worked at Spencer’s Inc. for many years and was a member of Ivy Green Baptist Church. She is survived by a sister, Lois Vernon of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Gary and Jackie Niston of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Franklin Thomas; an infant daughter, Trusty Geneva Thomas; a son, Kenneth Lee Thomas; a sister, Mae Southern; and four brothers, Simon Niston, John Willard Niston, Roosevelt Niston, and Steve Niston. The funeral service will be held Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Ivy Green Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mark M. Mayes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. No formal visitation will be held; however, her body will lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service at the church. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
