In Loving Memory of Gloria Ann Jennings
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gloria Ann Jennings, a woman whose spirit, strength, and passion for life touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Gloria passed away peacefully on January 24, at the age of 81, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering determination.
Born on August 26, 1943, Gloria was a beacon of light and joy from the very start. She was loving, fiercely caring, and wonderfully feisty, with a zest for life that was as contagious as her beautiful smile and laughter. Her passion and strength inspired all who crossed her path. No challenge could ever truly dim her fiery spirit, and she faced life’s trials with the fortitude of a warrior.
For many years, Gloria overcame obstacles that would have broken others, drawing from a deep well of courage and perseverance. Though her health began to decline 15 years ago, robbing her of the vibrant energy she had always exuded, it never dimmed the love she held for her family and friends. She remained steadfast in her devotion to those she cared for, even as her own battles wore on.
Despite her challenges, Gloria maintained her trademark sense of humor, wit, and fire. She reminded us all that life, no matter how difficult, is a gift worth fighting for. Her spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of those who loved her, offering comfort and inspiration to live life as fully as she did.
She was proceeded in death by the one she loved so very much, her husband Allen Leslie Jennings who just recently passed away in 2022. Her mother Elza Chrisman Hupman, her brother Robert Douglas Hupman and Michael Glenn Hupman and sister Joann Hupman Gardner.
She is survived by her most cherished possessions, her children. Dean Blankenship, Dale Blankenship (Laura, wife) Dana B Doss (Timothy, husband) and Dona Blankenship. Grandchildren, Brya’ Blankenship, Paris Voss, (Bryan, husband) Collin Blankenship, (Gillian, wife) Scott Blankenship, Joel Blankenship, Korbin Doss (Kayla, wife) and Kolbi Doss Tapp (Corey, husband) Great grandchildren Evan Victoriano, Easton Blankenship, Harlan Blankenship, Delaney Doss and Lula Tapp. Step grandchildren Danny Stanzione (Julia, wife). Step great grandchildren, Dexter, Isaac and Violet. Sister, Donna Sue Hupman Miller. Brothers, Randy Lynn Hupman and William Steve Hupman.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, cherished memories, and an example of resilience that will remain a guiding light for her family and friends.
Gloria was an integral part of the Vinton community and the Roanoke Valley. She was a member of the Toterea women’s club, Vinton players, Board of directors for Vinton’s Junior Miss, William Byrd boosters, Cheerleading coach/mom, camp coach/mom, pageant coach/mom, and so much more as she always wrapped her arms around the youth in the community as if they were her own.
Gloria even made her Hollywood debut as she made an appearance in films starring Willie Nelson, Peter Coyote and Leslie Ann Warren. Also appearing in Cagney and Lacey. Gloria was employed at JC Penny for numerous years and ended her career when she retired from Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
A private ceremony for the immediate will be help in her honor.
The family would like to thank all of those who have reached out upon learning of her death as it has provided us with such comfort and peace. An extended appreciation to the Star City rehabilitation and nursing facility (formerly Richfield) for the care and compassion over the past 2 years, as well as the Good Samaritan Hospice team who embraced our family with unwavering devotion and commitment.
Rest in peace sweet mom. Your presence is felt and will forever remain with us.
