Gloria Fay Cox Barese
Gloria Fay Cox Barese, 82, of Lynchburg, VA, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025.
Born on March 8, 1942, in Lynchburg, Fay was the daughter of the late Joseph W. Cox and Inez J. Cox. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nelson K. “Buddy” Barese Jr., and her brother, Joe Cox Jr.
Fay was a retired cashier who dedicated 20 years of service at Apple Market, where her kind spirit and warm smile left a lasting impression on everyone she met. A devoted member of Tree of Life Ministries, Fay’s faith was the foundation of her life.
She found immense joy in the outdoors, whether basking in the sun, tending to her garden, working in the yard, or admiring the beauty of nature. Fay also enjoyed camping and took great pride in canning vegetables. She loved watching birds and was especially proud of her rose trees, which she discovered in California and brought her endless delight. Fay cherished her rose trees dearly and enjoyed their presence in her life.
A talented and passionate crafter, Fay’s crocheting skills brought warmth and love to many. She created baby blankets, hats, booties, sweaters, and beautiful Afghans, including a treasured wedding gift for her daughter Dreama. Fay’s handiwork was a reflection of her love and creativity.
Above all, Fay adored her family. She cherished her daughters, Dreama Gail Barese Crews (David) and Michele Fay Barese Coffin (Richard); her grandchildren, Sarah Barese, Alexandra Coffin, Ryan Coffin (Nicolette), Vincent Crews, and Nicole Crews; and her beloved great-grandson, Logan Crews, who held a special place in her heart. She is also survived by her brother, Wayne L. Cox; her sister, Dolly McQuaid Mays; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 27, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, with Pastor Mike Dodson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
