Gloria Gilliam Gibson, 82, of Pamplin, VA passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023, at The Woodland in Farmville, VA.
Gloria was born on August 2, 1941, in Lynchburg, VA. She was the daughter of the late Harry Watts Gilliam and Hilda Dinkins Gilliam. She grew up and graduated from E C Glass High School in Lynchburg, VA. She went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA and a master’s degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. Gloria was known for her kind, friendly and outgoing nature as well her many social groups and she became President of her Sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, while attending Longwood College.
During her junior year in college, she met and fell in love with her husband, Edward M. Gibson, after meeting on spring break in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Gloria and Ed were married on December 8, 1963, and were preparing to share their 60th wedding anniversary this December.
Gloria and Ed made their home in Newport News, VA where Gloria worked in the Laboratory at Riverside Hospital and retired in 2007 before moving to their retirement farm in Pamplin. Gloria loved her family first, her friends and enjoyed entertaining, cooking, gardening, kayaking, boating or any adventure that came her way. Gloria and her family spent many years enjoying the beach, their homes in Nags Head, NC, fishing at Avalon pier and many family vacations, their waterfront home in Newport News where she loved to watch beautiful sunsets. She also loved her pets, dogs, cats, adopted or strays, all were welcome and found a loving home with Gloria. She always had an open heart, a smile on her face and a big spirit.
With a very active social life, she played Bridge regularly with friends in Newport News and Pamplin, was President of the Appomattox Garden Club, member of Newport News Garden Association, became a Master Gardener, was a member of the Red Hat Club and flower committee of Memorial Methodist Church in Appomattox.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Edward M. Gibson, son, Scott Gibson, wife, Lora Gibson, of Newport News, daughter, Dana Lynch, husband Jeffrey Lynch, of Manakin Sabot, two grandsons, Ryan Lynch, of Virginia Beach and Benjamin Lynch of Arlington, VA. She also leaves behind many cousins, aunts, uncles and beloved family members who will miss her dearly.
A celebration of life will be held at 12 pm, Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Robinson Funeral Home, Appomattox, VA, with Rev. Dr. Mark Allen officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at Robinson Funeral Home.
